Pike County, PA – Members of the Pike County Public Library board expressed their admiration of the new library’s 24 foot circulation desk at the library’s Grand Opening on Saturday, October 26. The desk was built and installed by Ed Nikles Custom Builder, Inc.

“Ed certainly exceeded his reputation on this one,” said James Burnett, a member of the Pike County Public Library Board. “As the area’s finest builder, he consistently provides quality workmanship. The desk has that special Ed Nikles touch.”

“The new library was designed with functionality and convenience in mind,” said Ed Nikles. “We wanted the desk to mimic that. The desk needed to be spacious and serviceable to fit the needs of the library’s staff and volunteers.”

When plans for the new library desk were announced, a design build proposal was sent to the contractors in the area, but Ed Nikles’ design was chosen for its efficiency and unique design.

“Not only is it functional, but it’s detailed, too,” said Ellen Goodin. Goodin, who is also a member of the Pike County Public Library Board, said that the desk is a wonderful centerpiece of the library’s main area.

Nikles made sure that the surface of the desk would match the other library desks, making it a perfect adornment.

The desk was designed in conjunction with Mr. Hector Muñoz-Baras of v.baras ARCHITECTS in Port Jervis, NY. Baras said that the desk was built with one question in mind: How can we engage the community more?

“Our idea behind the design was to engage community members by displaying local artists’ work in the center of the desk,” said Baras. “We wanted to create a niche for art.”

Baras designed and Nikles created a 3’ by 3’ glass display case in the center of the desk. The display also has built in LED lighting. Nikles said that he hopes that the library uses this as a rotating exhibit for local art and projects from the library’s programs.
